Deangate Ridge Golf and Sports Complex, Kent

Bringing new vitality to a council-owned and operated practice facility and academy course

Weller Designs were appointed by Medway Council, who own and operate Deangate Ridge Golf and Sports Complex to remodel and upgrade the existing practice ground which suffered from poor drainage as well as the far end of the outfield which could not be seen from the practice bays.

Through the importation of recycled soils the outfield was lifted, drained and sculpted to create a number of green complexes, thereby presenting a  far more appealing practice experience as well as greatly improved maintenance. Royalties obtained from the soil importation were used to upgrade the ball stop netting and provide new facilities for the covered practice bays.

Owing to the success of the driving range remodelling Weller Designs Ltd were commissioned to extend and completely remodel the nine-hole academy course.

The new course has been completely re-routed and will see the introduction of contoured fairways and exciting green complexes built to USGA specifications. To further enhance the course there is proposed a number of lakes and streams together with extensive tree and shrub planting.

It was a pleasure to work in partnership with Medway Council and to assist in improving their facilities in a way that did not require capital investment from them. In a time when all local councils are having to carefully allocate resources, the success of this scheme demonstrates how the use of recycled soils can enhance both public and private facilities alike.
